What is Snail Wood?
Until November 2006, Snail Wood was a 0.6ha poplar plantation. In November 2006 the Poplars were felled and in February 2007 part of the area was replanted with 340 new trees, more planting was carried out in the Autumn of 2007 and again with the very generous support of eForests in the spring of 2008. The woodland is bounded on two sides by the river Snail. The land is managed by the Snail Wood Steering Group - an elected group of Quotient Bioresearch employees, which in the future will include members of the local community not employed by Quotient Bioresearch.
Why are we doing this?
Our vision is to inspire and create a sustainable, native community woodland project for education, recreation and the future.
For the benefit of Quotient Bioresearch staff, the local community, schools and the environment.
By sharing Quotient Bioresearch's core values with the wider community, through inspiration, creativity and education and by providing the necessary facilities for the project.
What will Snail Wood become?
We're working closely with the Green Light Trust, English Nature, Cambridgeshire County Council's Biodiversity Partnership and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biological Records Centre to create an area of indigenous woodland which will be used and enjoyed by Quotient staff, local schools and the local community.
